Combined cycle power plant thermo-economic optimization at GE Power

Objectives:

Generating new algorithms for Advanced Plant Optimization tool in order to explore new features in combined cycle power plants. The main focus area is development and maintenance of standalone tools for thermo-economic optimization of full or limited scope of power plants.

Work plan:

The internship will be performed in Thermo-Economic Optimization group under Plant Engineering, GE Power, located in Baden (CH). GE Power may offer a Master Thesis after the Internship. Thermo-Economic Optimization group is responsible for performing optimizations of bottoming-cycles in order to select best combined cycle configurations according to thermo-economic targets for the gas plants.

Requirements:

Desired skills are:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, energy technology or equivalent
  • Solid understanding of thermodynamics
  • Proficiency in programming with MATLAB, C++, and Fortran, background in Linux, efficient skills in VBA macros
  • Fluent in English (oral and written)
  • High level of motivation and high level of communication skills

Duration:

  • Internship: 4-6 months
  • MSc thesis: based on agreement during the internship
