The research in the field of “Process system design” consists in applying process engineering methods for designing efficient energy conversion systems. Computer-aided methods are developed for selecting
the appropriate technologies, defining the interconnections between different process units, defining the optimal operating conditions and assessing the equipment size.
Considering the large number of possible technologies, the goal of this research is to develop methods based on the application of optimisation and process integration techniques that will allow engineers to identify synergies between technologies when integrating the system. The researchers in the domain develop process unit operations models in collaboration with technology experts and develop models to represent the possible interactions between technologies in the system.
